PDX SENSELESSS

The PDX Film Fest invited us to program a sunday morning of cartoons for their 2008 festival. From Bruce Bickford's ever-morphing clay animation to Takeshi Murata's shimmering digital puddles, this screening grounded a line of artists each subjectively stumbling through a barrage of pop culture. Behold these shining visions.

VDEO LYNE-UP

Bruce Bickford
PROMETHEUS' GARDEN

This bosch-like clay animation takes a stream-of-consciousness adventure through gardens, fortresses, and many indescribable wonders.
Barry Doupe
AT THE HEART OF A SPARROW

With seemingly rudimentary animation techniques inicative of early video game design, this video presents a series of casual encounters with fractured creatures.

James Duesing
LAW OF AVERAGES
This film imagines a lush garden where two lovers meet and begin a relationship that is complicated by a lack of exact compatibility, daily compromise, and occasional sensuousness. The temptation in this garden is an interactive theater called The Big Ghost which stars a wild and addictive creature named Vynola.

Hooliganship
GYLDEN LOAD

A load of halloween monsters freak each other out in a strobing cacophany.
Josh Mannis
DOWNWARD DOG
A cartoon dog-man performs his yoga routine in endless repetition.
Takeshi Murata
ESCAPE SPIRIT VIDEOSLIME

In this 8-minute melt, Murata digitally deconstructs and rebuilds a peculiar jungle landscape.
